While parenting we experience tons of ups and downs, highs and lows, first times and then all the time. Because we are so focused on our littles, we sometimes forget that we ourselves go through the same process day in and day out. I’m talking about your first born, I’m talking about time management, I’m talking about balancing work and home. I’m talking about; dinner, working out, adult time…. you know LIFE!
Here I am. Sitting on a red rectangular story time mat that my daughter very thoughtfully picked out. First she noted the purple one to her left and the green one to her right. Then she chose the red one in the middle. South African music is playing softly in the background; all the toddlers are playing amongst themselves in what felt like a perfect atmosphere (compared to the terrible two horrors that managed to control my entire morning). Think: buttons scattered all over the living room, a brand new bottle of moisturizer smeared all over the dining room floor and all over my daughter, a full on food war with oatmeal that I even put sprinkles on… come on sprinkles! Nope, she still wouldn’t budge.. she forcefully declined by throwing it all over the floor after smearing some of it all over the high chair, of course.
Throughout one's life, you can transform in so many ways. Am I different? Yes. Am I someone I don’t recognize? No. One thing my past and present share is my love of nature. As I think back on certain distinct memories of my life, nature has always been a part of me. I have always had an interest and obsession with what naturally surrounds me. Nature's power to restore and renew life mentally, physically and even sometimes metaphysically is what I am drawn to. Let me start from the beginning.
Don’t we all have that perfect birth story already made up in our mind the second we find out we’re pregnant? I know I did. No emergencies. Natural. Drug-Free. Perfect.
When I tell you you are my moon and my stars, this is why. You were born on the weekend of a Lunar Eclipse. That means the bright Full Moon passed through the Earth’s shadow. The light from the Moon was slightly dimmed that weekend, so you decided to let your light shine.
